Where does the name "Elka" come from?
Its fair to add here that Elka is "our" name, we have no links with any other company of a similar sounding name, so where did the name come from?
It's a good question... The name "Elka" is just a name formed from two other German words related to the heating. The German word for "electric" is "strom" or "elektrisch". The German word for an appliance is "gerät, so an electric appliance would be "elektrogerät". We have taken the "El" from elektrogerät to form the first part of Elka.
Inside the heaters is a refractory clay tile and the German word for this clay is "schamotte" whilst the German word for tile is "kachel". We have taken the "ka" from kachel to form the second part of the new name Elka Heating. So there you are, the name Elka is a derived from "electric" and "tile" put together to form a new name - Elka Heating, the future of heating is electric!
